White Weenie is an aggro deck comprised of the most efficient White creatures for their mana cost. It is
normally a mono colored deck however there is the occasional W/x build that pops up. The deck is also very resilient to sweeper effects.

Variants:

Kithkin- Tribal from Lorwyn block
Mirrormaster- Kithkin White Weenie with Thistledown Liege and Mirrorweave
Soldier- Also tribal but incorporating the new soldiers from the 2010 core set.

"White Weenie Your Face Off" by DarrenDC

This is a very fast, powerful, and versatile white weenie deck. I've had a White Weenie deck ever since I started playing. This deck has gone through numerous iterations with the inclusion of type 2 and newer sets.

Whats great is that you can get very powerful creatures very fast w/ Empyrial armor. You can spirit link those creatures for large amounts of life. The creatures keep coming and the damage mounts up fast.

I would put 4 Swords to Plowshares and lessen Spirit Link and Pacifism by one each.

Beyond Dominia's White Weenie Primer

WHITE WEENIE PRIMER by Oscar Tan, December 26, 2000

(This is actually the author’s holiday present for Shadow, the owner of Beyond Dominia, especially since writing is easier to send over the Pacific Ocean. Decklists and card text taken from various Internet sources as cited; supplements taken from the author’s private e-mail with the permission of Alex Shvartsman, Sean McKeown and Eric Taylor. The first two are Alex and Gandalf on Beyond Dominia, respectively.)

INTRODUCTION
(Note: This Primer is geared for casual players with no cards before Revised and for beginning players, and focuses on the mono-color white weenie deck. Adding power cards is a simple exercise outside the basic white weenie structure.)

When I want a simple but effective deck, I turn to white weenie. It’s simplicity is deceptive, however, as this is one of the most versatile archtypes in Magic history, and has won tournaments at various points.

I once played a casual game like that went like this:
Turn 1: Plains, Savannah Lion
Turn 2: Plains, Attack, White Knight
Turn 3: Plains, Attack, Savannah Lion, Order of Leitbur
Turn 4: Plains, Attack, Armageddon

I soon won the 4-way multiplayer game after that.

It is not just the diverse abilities of white’s small creatures that define white weenie, however. White is the most solid color to play by itself as it has the most well-rounded supporting spells. A mid-game trick such as Armageddon shows that this archtype emphasizes flexibility aside from raw power (unlike the narrower spells that accompany red, green and black weenies).

One unique class of supporting spells further sets white weenie apart, the Disenchants. Today, white weenie can easily sideboard in fifteen cards that destroy artifacts and enchantments if it needs to, and is lethal against most combo and lock-based control decks (including Humility-, Moat- and Abyss- based decks but excluding a few that are unaffected by Disenchant, such as Pande-burst and the old Academy decks). In Tempest-era Type II, the ability to call on 4 Disenchant and 4 Aura of Silence against the weenie’s nightmare Cursed Scroll was key, and WW’s bench only deepened with later sets and Abolish and Seal of Cleansing. I just love this article...a must read for white weenie players!

In The End, There Will Only Be Cockroaches and White Weenies

If the title is any indication, today's lesson is on White weenies. As long as Magic has been around, there has always been a white weenie deck. In tournament play, however, the deck seems to make an appearance in a different form every year. It's also worth noting that White Weenie hasn't usually dominated, it has rather acted as a foil deck to the metagame at the time. Only recently has the deck become a major force in tournaments. Ok, enough idle chat, on to the deck!

As I said before, White Weenie has been around in some form or another since the beginning of Magic, but it didn't make a true impact until the World Championships in 1996. Tom Chanpheng played a white weenie deck designed to beat the rampant Necropotence decks to become the 1996 World Champion. One thing that struck a lot of players as odd was the lack of Crusades in the deck. Even without the Crusades, Champheng still won the tournament, beating Mark Justice in the finals.

White weenie
World Championships 1996

2x Phyrexian War Beast
1x Lodestone Bauble
1x Zuran Orb
4x Order of Leitbur
4x Order of the White Shield
4x Savannah Lions
4x White Knight
2x Serra Angel
4x Swords to Plowshares
4x Disenchant
1x Slight of Mind
1x Armageddon
1x Balance
1x Land Tax
1x Reinforcements
1x Reprisal

11x Plains
4x Adarkar Wastes
4x Strip Mine
4x Mishra's Factory
1x Kjeldoran Outpost

(note, in the actual tournament, Chanpheng mislabeled the Adarkar Wastes as Plains, and had to play them as Plains for the entire tournament)

There was also another White Weenie deck played at Worlds that year, during the type1.5 portion of the tournament. Scott Johns played it to a first place finish during that time, and it is similar to the current extended White Weenie deck PT Jank.

Star Spangled Slaughter
World Championships 1996

4x Order of Leitbur
4x Order of the White Shield
3x Savannah Lions
2x Serendib Efreet
2x White Knight
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Disenchant
3x Arcane Denial
2x Psionic Blast
2x Incinerate
2x Fireball
1x Binding Grasp
1x Control Magic

6x Plains
4x Plateau
4x Tundra
3x Volcanic Island
3x Mishra's Factory
2x Adarkar Wastes

During the 1996/97 Pro Tour season, White Weenie went pretty much unplayed, as there were many better deck options available. During the 1997/98 season, however, there were two types of creatures printed that made White Weenie viable again. The first was shadow creatures, such as Soltari Priest and Monk. The second type was the En-Kors, which allowed them to redirect damage from burn spells to a protection from red creature. This ability was important as Sligh was the dominant decktype during this time.. Matt Linde won the US Nationals with a White Weenie deck, beating Mike Long in the finals. Brian Hacker played the deck card for card to a top eight finish at the 1998 World Championships.

White weenie
1998 US Nationals and World Championships

3x Nomads En-Kor

Kithkin Militia: Strategy Session

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Building on a Budget. Last week, we evolved the Kithkin Militia deck to a mainly Kithkin-based White Weenie deck with a respectable 10-4 record. However, there were multiple cries from the forums and my email that went along these lines:

"Hey! Anyone can build a White Weenie Deck! There's no skill involved in playing or building that deck—why did you waste your time?"

And my response? There's a remarkable amount of depth involved in selecting the right sixty cards for any Magic deck, no matter how straightforward the deck might seem on the surface. In particular, there are four advanced principles of Magic strategy that I'm going to explain today. These concepts are curve, synergy, threat density and threat selection.

These four cornerstones of an aggressive strategy are all interrelated—you cannot take one into account without the others. Curve refers to the mana cost of your cards, and making sure that you are able to maximize the use of your mana each turn. Synergy is having your cards work well together. Threat density means having enough threats to kill your opponent with, and threat selection is making sure you have the right threats. Let's take a look at each of these one-by-one using last week's final deck, and then see why it is so important to a winning aggressive deck to have these four concepts work in harmony. Deconstructing White Weenie

Before I begin this week's column, I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who has written in over the past few weeks with support, questions, and suggestions. I was especially gratified to hear from a great many of you who, after reading my "Prerelease Primer", decided to go to your first Magic tournament during the Prerelease weekend. I received one letter from a player who not only did well, but who defeated the number one ranked player in the world. Way to go!

If it seems like I'm stalling before diving into White Week, it's probably because I am. I decided that I would write about "White Weenie" decks and—as a nod to my previous column—attempt to build a modern version using only Onslaught and Legions cards. The problem? I've never played with a White Weenie deck in my life, and I don't know that I have ever even built one before.

White Weenie decks have perhaps the oldest pedigree in the Magic game, and they have won more than their fair share of "best in show"—from the smallest playgroups all the way to World Championships. I thought we could take a look at some of the more successful White Weenie decks in Magic history and attempt to borrow elements from them and build a new deck or two.

Today's lesson:
What the heck is a White Weenie and what do successful versions look like?

The name of the deck pretty much sums it up. White weenies are cheap, efficient creatures that overrun slower opponents before they get a chance to set up. Once your cheap creatures are on the board, you can get rid of your opponents' creatures with removal, their resources with global effects like Armageddon, or their powerful artifacts and enchantments with disenchant effects.

How do you decide whether a creature is efficient? A measure of a creature's efficiency is the ratio between its power and its casting cost. Tom Chanpheng featured what is undoubtedly the most efficient creature ever to show up in a White Weenie deck when he won the 1996 Magic World Championship with the following deck.

Tom Chanpheng's White Weenie
1996 World Championships

The efficient card I am referring to is Savannah Lions. For a single white mana, Tom was able to play a 2/1 creature on the first turn of the game with twelve creatures to back it up on the following turn (fifteen if you count the other three Lions). Two points of power for one mana is virtually unheard of in newer Magic expansions and there is a good reason for that. Quite simply, it creates decks that are too fast for slower decks to be viable. Today, the best you are going to do is a 2/1 or a 2/2 for two mana.

Tom's deck played more mana than you would normally expect to find in a White Weenie deck. That is due to the presence of some more expensive spells like Serra Angel and the plains-eating Kjeldoran Outpost. It's hard to imagine building a deck like this in today's environment because the deck uses absolutely broken cards, like Zuran Orb, Land Tax, and Balance, that were restricted to a single copy per deck. What we can take from it is its reliance on inexpensive creatures with a good power-to-casting-cost ratio and a few late-game, back-breaking creatures.

The next time a White Weenie deck made its presence known on the tournament scene was a couple of years later when Matt Linde won the 1998 U.S. Nationals and Brian Hacker made Top 8 at the World Championships with the following deck designed by Kyle Rose (it seems a shame not to give him credit considering that he also created the deck after this).

Matt Linde's White Weenie
1998 U.S. Nationals and World Championships

At the time this deck was played, the most popular decks were aggressive red decks that relied on efficient creatures and burn spells to kill their opponents quickly. This deck was able to gain life with Soul Warden to give the red player an uphill climb. To make matters worse, the deck had seven creatures with protection from red and eleven with protection from black. The en-Kor creatures allowed you to redirect damage done to them to another creature—effectively giving the en-Kors protection from red and black as well. (The damage prevention rules were different back in 1998, but this trick still works.)

This deck had creatures to spare and seven fewer lands than the previous deck. While it did not have any large creatures, such as the Serra Angel, it could make a huge creature with the curiously spelled Empyrial Armor. Cataclysm was this deck's closer, leaving each player with only one of each type of permanent after it resolved. An Armored shadow creature was often too much for a player to race after the Cataclysm.

Interestingly, both decks made use of the recently reprinted White Knight. Will White Knight make it into our version? When Kyle Rose built the following 1999 U.S. Nationals - winning deck he did not have White Knight to play with and instead used the Longbow Archers that replaced it in the base set.

It seems that the White Weenie had seen several championships already.

1996 MTG World Champion

The rarest card of all is the 1996 World Champion. This card was given out to the winner of Worlds in 1996, and all other copies of it, plus the printing plates, were ceremonially destroyed. The winner of that tournament was Australia's Tom Chanpheng, who, at last word, still has the card at his home in a screwdown plastic case.

Chanpheng won the title playing a White Weenie deck:

Main Deck

60 cards:
1 Kjeldoran Outpost
4 Mishra's Factory
15 Plains
4 Strip Mine
24 lands

4 Order of Leitbur
4 Order of the White Shield
2 Phyrexian War Beast
4 Savannah Lions
2 Serra Angel
4 White Knight
20 creatures 1 Armageddon
1 Balance
4 Disenchant
1 Land Tax
1 Lodestone Bauble
1 Reinforcements
1 Reprisal
1 Sleight of Mind
4 Swords to Plowshares
1 Zuran Orb
16 other spells

Sideboard

2 Arenson's Aura
1 Black Vise
4 Divine Offering
1 Energy Storm
1 Exile
1 Kjeldoran Outpost
1 Reprisal
2 Serrated Arrows
1 Sleight of Mind
1 Spirit Link
15 sideboard cards

The funny thing about Chanpheng's deck was that it contained a Sleight of Mind with no way to cast it. He misregistered his deck, forgetting the Adarkar Wastes. DCI rules forced him to fill out his empty slots with basic Plains, and so the Sleight of Mind was "stranded." It didn't matter, however, as he went on to win the Championship anyway.
